My Three Influential Artifacts

One artifact I would like to analyze using the ideological method of criticism is the tv show Family Guy. Family Guy can be offensive while being humorus. Many people find Family Guy to be disrespectful because Family Guy talks about religious views as well as cultural views in a non-sympathetic way. It portrays the serect views of many people humorously not caring what or who the sitcom offends.

Another artifact i could analyze using the ideological method is McDonalds. Many people believe McDonalds is addictive and misleading. Alot of people believe that McDonalds is to blame for children obesity as well as rising health problems in our society.

The last artifact i would like to analyze using the ideological method of criticism is modeling. Modeling for years has been thought of as the skinny, tall, thin girl with no flaws. This is very misleading to young girls, and causes them to think in order to be a model, or to be considered as pretty, you have to be tall and thin. This is not at all true and a very judgemental flaw of society.

Blog Response

According to Sonja K. Foss the three basic steps in analying the artifact is the systematic analysis as the act of criticism, acts and artifacts as the objects of analysis in criticism, and understanding rhetorical processes as the purpose of criticism. Also according to her the five canons of rhetoric are and inro. in which you discuss the research question it's contribution to rhetorial theory and it's significance, a description of your artifact and its context, a description of your method of analysis, a report of the findings of the analysis and a discussion of the contribution your analysis makes to rhetorical theory. She also says that "neo-Aristotelian criticism" is that humans are the creators of rhetoric, symbols are the medium, and communication is the purpose for rhetoric.
