In Class Speech..

The artifact that I chose to analyze is not one that I have covered in previous assignments. I chose to analyze is the Oprah Show. The Oprah Show is a great topic to analyze using the ideological method because Oprah has so many followers. Many people live their lives off of what Oprah says is or isnt true. Oprah is even so powerful to even make or break stars...If Oprah doesn't agree or like a certain thing or person neither does her audience. Oprah's audience is very loyal to her and watches her show faithfully. Oprah is one of the most influential women in the entertainment industry. This is why I chose to do the Oprah Show.

Analyzed through Pentadic Criticism

One artifact i could analyze using Pentadic criticism is weddings. Weddings for many years have been used to bond or tie two people together publically. Two people get married legally with the priest present at the wedding which will later be called a marriage. A wedding and/or marriage suggest feelings of love and dedication, and when two people get married traditionally they have a wedding to let others know of their sacred bond. The traditional wedding will normally be in a church with many family and friends present. The traditional colors of a wedding are black and white, and when the bride walks down the aisle it is traditional to sing "Here Comes the Bride".

Act:  Publicized bond between two people legally, emotionally and financially.

Agent: The two people getting married, the priest, family and friends.

Agency: Love and dedication

Purpose: To publicize and legalize two people in love.

Scene:  A church very decorative in what ever city/state of the couples choice.

My Favorite Artifact...Analyzed

The artifact of my choice to analyze this week is modeling. Modeling for years has had the effect of making many girls believe that to be skinny, tall, and slim is the idea of beauty. It is hard to convince young girls that they are pretty when all they see on the television is the protrayal of girls who look nothing like them.

Many young girls go thorough health problems and emotional stress trying to look like what society deems as pretty. Young girls who are not slim or tall and are short and carry more weight, tend to be outcasted by society or looked down upon. Many modeling competitions and television shows such as Top Model and the Victorias Secret Fashion Show portray models by societys point of view, not realistically.

By protraying models in this way causes many girls to go through health problems such as eating disorders, and starvation. Many young girls try to become thin immediately by thowing up there food and not eating for fear of how they will be viewed. This is a growing problem for our culture.

Maybe one day this misleading, ignorant, fact will change, and we will see a more diverse set of models who portray what society is really like.

My Three Influential Artifacts

One artifact I would like to analyze using the ideological method of criticism is the tv show Family Guy. Family Guy can be offensive while being humorus. Many people find Family Guy to be disrespectful because Family Guy talks about religious views as well as cultural views in a non-sympathetic way. It portrays the serect views of many people humorously not caring what or who the sitcom offends.

Another artifact i could analyze using the ideological method is McDonalds. Many people believe McDonalds is addictive and misleading. Alot of people believe that McDonalds is to blame for children obesity as well as rising health problems in our society.

The last artifact i would like to analyze using the ideological method of criticism is modeling. Modeling for years has been thought of as the skinny, tall, thin girl with no flaws. This is very misleading to young girls, and causes them to think in order to be a model, or to be considered as pretty, you have to be tall and thin. This is not at all true and a very judgemental flaw of society.
